You will need the book to complete this lesson, but there are multiple digital and read aloud version online (Youtube offers some good options). Included in this packet is a clear step by step lesson for teachers as well as a planning sheet and differentiated formats for final copies that students can use. Aligned to the ideas in the Leader In Me Program, students can begin with the end in mind and reflect on where they want to go, and what they have to do to get there, while tying in concepts from the book!

Being transparent with students on the standard of assessment and grades is a great way to implement high expectations as well as set them up to be successful. This rubric includes four major components of oral fluency in any regard, whether it be an oral presentation, reading, group work or any other context. These components include expression and volume, phrasing, smoothness, and pace. Each component includes a possibility of four points totaling 16 points total. That number can then be multiplied by 6.25 to place it out of 100. This is a great way to hold your students accountable and document assessment to allow for reflection and improvement and a skill that is highly necessary and often neglected.
